Hardscape Cleaning in Rotterdam, NY

Driveways, walkways, patios and front steps take a beating from salt, leaves and shade. We look closely at each surface before we touch it, tell you plainly what will clean up and what will not, then get it done with care for your plants and joints.

What hardscape cleaning does for your home

Hardscape cleaning is the work we do on the flat, hard ground around your house: concrete driveways, paver walks, patios, stone steps and the slab by the garage. Over time those surfaces collect a gray film of dirt, green growth in shady spots, dark stains from leaves and the white crust that road salt leaves behind after a long winter.

We start by walking every surface with you. Some marks lift right out, and some, like old rust or oil that has soaked deep into concrete, may only fade. You hear that before any work begins, so the result matches what you were told.

The payoff is simple. Safer footing where algae made steps slick, better curb appeal from the street, and surfaces that look cared for instead of tired.

What is included in a visit

  1. 01

    A walk-through before any water

We look at every area you want cleaned and note cracks, loose pavers, worn spots and stain types. We point out anything that could change the result, so nothing surprises you later.

  2. 02

    A small test spot

On older concrete or soft stone, we clean a small, out-of-the-way patch first. It shows how the surface reacts and what the finished look will be.

  3. 03

    Pre-treatment for growth and stains

Green algae, black mildew and leaf tannin stains get a cleaning solution suited to the material. Letting it dwell does much of the work, which means less force on the surface.

  4. 04

Even passes with a covered spinning head

A rotary cleaning head works in steady overlapping passes, which avoids the stripes and wand marks you sometimes see on driveways. Edges and steps are detailed by hand.

  5. 05

    Protecting what is nearby

We wet down plantings, keep runoff away from beds where we can and work carefully around siding, doors and anything you have stored outside.

  6. 06

    Rinse and cleanup

Debris is rinsed off and swept up, and we do a final walk with you before we pack up.

Signs your surfaces are ready for a cleaning

  • Slick, green steps or walks

Shaded paths on the north side of a house stay damp and grow algae. That film gets slippery when wet, and it is the most common reason people call us.

  • White crust after winter

Salt and ice melt leave a chalky residue on concrete and pavers. Spring is a good time to clear it before it settles in further.

  • Dark leaf and seed stains

Maple and oak leaves left sitting through fall leave brown shadows behind. They usually lighten a great deal with the right treatment.

  • Plants rooting between pavers

Weeds and moss in the joints trap water and grit against the stone. Clearing them out also lets us see whether the joints need fresh sand.

  • A driveway that looks older than the house

Gray, blotchy concrete pulls down the look of a well-kept home exterior. A cleaning often makes the biggest visible change for the effort.

How the day goes

  1. 1

    Your free quote by phone

Tell us which surfaces you have in mind and what bothers you about them. We set a time to come look.

  2. 2

    Inspection and plain findings

We walk the areas, note what we see and explain which stains should clear and which may only fade. If a surface has damage that cleaning will not fix, we say so.

  3. 3

    Prep and treatment

We move light items aside, protect plantings and apply pre-treatment to growth and stains. You do not need to be home, though access to an outdoor spigot helps.

  4. 4

    Cleaning and detailing

Large areas get even passes with the rotary head. Steps, edges and corners get hand attention.

  5. 5

    Rinse, sweep and final look

We rinse everything clear, clean up debris and walk the work with you so you can see the result for yourself.

What affects the price

Every quote is based on what we find during the walk-through, not a guess over the phone. You get a clear breakdown by area, so you know what each part costs and can choose what to include.

Square footage
Cleaning one front walk takes a fraction of the time a long, two-car driveway does. Area is usually what moves the number most.
Type of staining
General dirt cleans quickly. Heavy algae, rust and deep oil spots take extra treatment and time, and we tell you up front how much improvement to expect.
Surface material
Brushed concrete, pavers, flagstone and older or flaking surfaces each need a different approach and level of care.
Access and setup
Steps, tight side yards, long hose runs and lots of items to move all add time to the day.

Questions about hardscape cleaning

Could cleaning harm my concrete or pavers?

It should not, as long as the pressure and solution match the material. That is the reason we look things over first and try a test patch on anything older or softer. If a surface is already flaking or crumbling, you will hear about it before we start, because we would rather skip an area than make it worse.

Can you get oil stains out of my driveway?

Fresh spots often lift well. Older oil that has soaked into the concrete usually lightens but may not disappear completely. We show you what to expect during the walk-through so the result is never a letdown.

What happens to the sand between my pavers?

Some joint sand can wash out during cleaning, especially if it is already loose or full of weeds. We check the joints beforehand and let you know what we see so you can plan for it.

Is the cleaning solution safe for my lawn and plants?

We pre-wet nearby plantings, rinse them afterward and keep runoff away from garden beds as much as the layout allows. Let us know about any plants you are especially careful with and we will take extra steps there.

When is the best time of year to have this done?

Late spring is popular because it clears away winter salt and early growth. Fall works well too, after the leaves are down. We schedule when temperatures stay above freezing so water does not ice up on the surface.
