Gutter Inspection for Permanent Lighting in Rotterdam
Permanent lighting usually runs right along your gutters, so their condition matters. Before we recommend anything, we look closely at your gutters, fascia and roofline, then tell you in plain words what we found and whether the edge is ready for lights.
Why We Start at the Gutters
On most homes, the cleanest place for a permanent lighting track is just under the gutter line or along the fascia board behind it. If a gutter is pulling away, a hanger is loose or the wood behind it is soft, a light channel mounted there will follow that sag. You would notice it every night the lights are on.
So our first step is a careful look at that edge. We walk the house, check the gutters from the ground and from a ladder, and take photos of anything worth your attention. You get honest findings before any recommendation, and you decide what happens next.
If everything is solid, we plan your layout. If something needs attention first, we say so clearly and explain why, without pushing extra work on you.
What Our Gutter and Roofline Check Covers
- Gutter alignment and pitch
- We look for sections that dip, bow or pull away from the house. A straight, firm gutter line gives your lights a clean, even run.
- Hangers and fasteners
- Loose spikes and missing hangers are common after a few winters of ice and snow load. We note each one we find so you know exactly where the weak spots are.
- Fascia condition
- We press-test the boards behind the gutters for soft or rotted wood. A track needs sound wood or trim to hold for years.
- Debris and water flow
- Packed leaves and overflowing corners tell us water is spilling where it should not. We point it out, since standing water and ice near a light channel are worth fixing before install.
- Photos and a plain summary
- You get pictures of what we saw and a short explanation in everyday language. No jargon, and no pressure to act on anything that can wait.
Signs Your Gutters Need a Look Before Lights Go Up
A wavy roofline at dusk
If your gutter line looks uneven from the street, lights mounted there will make that wave more obvious. It is one of the first things we check.
Ice dams last winter
Heavy ice along the eaves can bend gutters and loosen hangers. We check for damage that may not be obvious once the snow melts.
Water spilling over the edge
Overflow during rain usually means a clog or poor pitch. Water running across a light channel all season is something we would rather solve first.
Peeling paint or dark stains on the fascia
Staining behind the gutters often points to moisture getting into the wood. We check whether that board can still hold a mount.
Gutters that move when touched
A gutter that shifts with light pressure needs new fasteners before anything is attached near it.

- 3
Honest findings first
We sit down with you and go through what we saw. If the edge is ready, we say so. If a repair or clearing should happen first, we explain why and what it means for the install.
- 4
Layout and next steps
Once the roofline is ready, we map out where the track runs, where the controller goes and how your app-controlled lights will look year-round.

What Shapes Your Lighting Quote
The gutter check itself is part of your free quote. What you pay for permanent lighting depends mostly on your roofline and what we find along it. We give you a clear, line-by-line quote so nothing comes as a surprise.
- Length of the roofline
- More linear feet of gutter and fascia means more track and more lights.
- Height and number of stories
- Second-story eaves and steep pitches take more ladder work and setup time.
- Condition of the edge
- Sound gutters and fascia keep things simple. If something needs fixing first, we tell you up front so you can plan for it.
- Corners, peaks and gables
- Each turn in the roofline adds cutting and fitting to keep the run clean.
- Power and controller location
- How close an outlet is to where the lights start affects the wiring path.
Questions About Gutters and Permanent Lighting
Something not covered here? (518) 665-3531
Do the lights attach to my gutters?
On many homes the track mounts under the gutter line or on the fascia right behind it. We choose the spot after the inspection, based on what will hold best and look cleanest from the street. We explain the choice before anything is installed.
What happens if you find a problem with my gutters?
We show you photos and explain what we saw in plain terms. You decide how to handle it. We will not install lights on an edge we do not think will hold.
Will the lights get in the way of water flow?
They should not. We plan the mount so the channel sits clear of the gutter opening and does not block downspouts or the path water takes off the roof.
How do the lights hold up to snow and ice?
The track is low-profile and built to stay up through winter. A firm gutter and solid fascia behind it make the biggest difference, which is why we check them first.
Do you work outside Rotterdam?
Yes. We also visit homes in Schenectady, Glenville, Scotia, Niskayuna, Guilderland and nearby towns. Ask when you call for your free quote.
